I9 FAQs

WHY DO I NEED TO COMPLETE AN I-9 FORM?

Scorers hired by Pearson are Pearson employees.

As an employer, Pearson is required by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, Department of Homeland Security to complete and retain a Form I-9 for each individual they hire for employment in the United States.

To complete the I-9 Form, the employee provides certain personal information and attests to his/her eligibility to work.  The employer or designated agent certifies that an in-person examination of the employee’s original identification documents was performed.

WHY DO I NEED TO GET MY I-9 FORM VERIFIED?

With distributed scoring, scorers working from home may not be able to meet a Pearson representative in person to verify original identification documentation, which is required for the I-9 Form.  The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services allow employers to designate external agents to complete the I-9 form. For this reason, Pearson has designated school officials/administrators, clergy members, notarys, bank representatives, or a supervisor at another job to act as their agent to assist with the I-9 completion process for our remote hires.

A designation letter and I-9 instructions are provided on the onboarding site, to bring with you to an authorized agent when you complete your I-9 form.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING TO MY AUTHORIZED REPRESENTATIVE?

Print and bring the I-9 Form and instructions provided by Pearson on the onboarding site, and the required original identification documentation.  Please make sure that your identification documents are original, current and have not expired.

WHY DO I NEED TO COMPLETE A NEW I-9 FORM?

If you have not worked for Pearson for a period of 90 days or more, you are required by law to complete and submit a new I-9 form.

We at Pearson realize that this may pose an inconvenience and assure you that we are working to extend this window. Please understand that at this time we are required by law to follow the current regulations.

CAN I VISIT A NOTARY PUBLIC TO VERIFY MY I-9 FORM?

The U.S. government's Handbook for Employers includes instructions for completing the I-9 form, and states that a notary public can sign section 2 of the form.  Please note that we do NOT need them to affix their seal onto the form.  We have designated them to act as an authorized representative to assist with verifying the I-9 form without notarizing the form.

WHAT SHOULD I DO WITH MY COMPLETED FORMS?

You MUST mail the completed, original, verified I-9 Form* and a copy of the identification documentation presented to:

Pearson HR
Mail Stop 333
2510 North Dodge St.
Iowa City, IA 52245

*No copies of the I-9 Form will be accepted.

Please contact our Human Resources Department at 1-866-327-1182, option 2 for assistance or to answer any questions.
